People affected by rare diseases often experience many barriers in their journey. Lack of research studies for many rare diseases have resulted in a lack of knowledge of the causes, diagnosis, and treatments of rare diseases. Many rare diseases have few or no US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) life-saving treatments. Join Dr. Nicholas Johnson, VCU Health Neurologist as he shares about the establishment of the Wellstone Muscular Dystrophy Specialized Research Center to help children with muscular dystrophies through research to understand the causes of disease and symptom variability, and to identify appropriate clinical endpoints for therapeutic development. 

Join the Health and Wellness Library on Wednesday, February 25th at noon as a part of its Rare Disease Month Speaker Series and learn more about how researchers work with patient advocacy groups and industry partners to develop therapies for patients with rare diseases.

This program is free and open to all. Registration is required. Registrants will receive a Zoom link to the program on the day of the event.
