SUMMARY:Hack My Assignment: Adjusting Research Assignments for the Generative AI Environment
DESCRIPTION:These faculty-only sessions are a time to learn techniques and
get assistance on research assignments where nonexistent citations or other
signs of inappropriate generative AI use are becoming more common in
students’ work. The sessions start with an overview of techniques to
adapt assignments to incorporate or to exclude generative AI. The bulk of
the time\, however\, is spent revising or reinventing assignments that
faculty bring to the sessions. \n\nThe workshop will be flexible\,
including having a librarian try to “break” the assignment with a
generative AI answer or talking about ways to rework it to make the
assignment work with generative AI. Together we'll look for tweaks to make
cheating less tempting and to help students meet learning goals.
\n\nRegistration is limited to no more than 5 participants per session\, to
ensure the sessions can focus on participants’ assignments. If a session
is full or you can’t make it to a scheduled time\, reach out to the
presenter or to your subject librarian for assignment consultations on
research papers\, projects\, and other assignments that involve library
research. \n\nFor more information or special accommodations\, please
 contact Julie Arendt (jaarendt@vcu.edu).
