This documentary illuminates the early history of mental health treatment for African Americans with a focus on the immediate aftermath of the Civil War and Emancipation, from 1865 to the early 1900s. VCU Sociology Professor Shawn Utsey, Ph.D., will discuss his film and his research. Please bring your lunch. Dessert and drinks will be provided.
