Advance Your Research - Publishing a Journal Article: A Getting Started Guide for Graduate Students
Event box
You’ve done the research. Now it’s time to share the results by writing an article for publication. Join this interactive webinar to get started with journal authoring and publishing.
Understand who gets credit as an author and when to have the authorship conversation. Learn what factors to consider when selecting a journal that fits your manuscript and how to use tools provided by VCU Libraries to gather the journal information you need. We will end with a conversation about the collaborative nature of research and how to reduce conflict with co-authors during the publishing process. By the conclusion of today’s session, participants will be able to:
- Define the basic criteria for authorship and develop a plan to refine that definition based on their research field
- Use the information provided by the journal itself to determine if it is a good fit for their goals in publishing
- Identify and use tools from VCU Libraries to aid the journal selection process
- Thoughtfully discuss questions of authorship and journal selection with their research group to reduce conflict
